Marine and Coastal Feature Atlas 2026

The Marine and Coastal Feature Atlas 2026 is a statewide spatial inventory of Victoria's marine and coastal biodiversity values, protected areas, heritage and scientific features, human uses, infrastructure, coastal management activities, and policy and administrative boundaries. The dataset provides a consistent, polygon-based representation of features across the marine and coastal environment as defined in the Marine and Coastal Act 2018. Organised into 13 thematic groups, the atlas supports marine and coastal planning, environmental assessment, cumulative impact assessment, and spatial decision-making. The dataset underpins decision-support applications including CoastKit and the Feature Activity Sensitivity Tool (FeAST). Data has been compiled from multiple authoritative government, research, and monitoring sources and integrated into a single standardised composite layer. Replacing the 2020 Feature Atlas, legacy point and line datasets were converted to polygon extents using feature-specific spatial rules to support consistent spatial assessments, analysis and reporting.
